Denmark-born artist Stephan Skipper is a singer/songwriter/producer, now based in Melbourne. For more than twenty years, he has been composing and performing in Denmark, Sweden, London and Australia. His most prominent influences vary from Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder, to Radiohead and Mike Oldfield. “I love the dance between tension and release, it’s like a heartbeat,” he says.
While his music is primarily performed solo, he has also performed in a duo, as well as a seven-piece band. His first album ‘Skipper’ was released 2013 and was produced alongside Kieran Kelly (Angus & Julia Stone and Will Stratton).
The up-and-coming SKIPPER EP2017 is the first official release in four years. The EP is produced by Stephan, and pulls on amazing talent from two other continents; guitarist Ask Norholm (SKIPPER), basist Todd Erk Bass, drummer Patrick Berkery (The War on Drugs) and engineers Brain McTear and Matt Poirier (Sharon Van Etten, The War on Drugs). It is due to be released in March and is the feature album of this month's Mindful Vinyl.
With a Masters in Music Therapy, Stephan is currently the senior music therapist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, where he is using music to help patients cope with the existential challenges that follow diagnosis and treatments; as well as supporting palliative patients and their families though the end stages of life.
